>Cut the leaves at an angle from the base of the plant.

Taiwan Reports First Bird Flu Case Outside China

Taiwan has reported the first H7N9 bird flu case outside of mainland China. A 53-year-old businessman is in serious condition in the hospital.
The man recently returned from the Chinese city of Suzhou, according to health officials. China already has 108 confirmed cases of the new bird flu strain since it appeared in March.
The Taiwanese man was taken to the hospital three days after he arrived in the country from Suzhou via Shanghai. The country’s Health Minister Chiu Wen-ta assured that the ill man was not in contact with any poultry and did not eat any undercooked birds while in China.
The first bird flu case outside China is likely worrying to experts, who are still trying to learn more about the deadly H7N9 strain. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already said that the new strain appears to spread more easily from birds to humans than it does from human to human contact.
WHO flu expert Dr. Keji Fukuda stated at a news conference in Beijing, where new cases were reported last week, “This is definitely one of the most lethal influenza viruses we have seen so far. When we look at influenza viruses this is an unusually dangerous virus.”
Fukuda added that the WHO team has just started its investigation into how the H7N9 virus made the jump from birds to humans. He added that, based on the evidence, “this virus is more easily transmissible from poultry to humans than H5N1.” H5N1 is the previous strain spread in 2003.

Since the H5N1 strain was discovered 10 years ago, it has killed 360 people worldwide. Most of those who died came into contact with infected birds.
WHO officials added that they are continuing to monitor the new virus strain closely to see if it could spark a global pandemic. However, there is little evidence so far that it could spread easily between humans. Of the now 103 confirmed bird flu cases, 22 people have died.

3. Aim for a healthy weight. If you are overweight or obese, carrying this extra weight increases your risk of high blood pressure. One way to determine if you need to lose weight is to find out your body mass index or BMI. If your BMI is above the healthy range (i.e., 25 or greater), or if your waist measurement is greater than 35 inches (women) or 40 inches (men) you probably have excess abdominal weight and you may benefit from weight loss especially if you have other risk factors. 4. Increase your physical activity. Do at least 30 minutes of moderate activity, such as walking, most days of the week. You can do 30 minutes in three 10-minute segments.

Death toll hits 16 in China bird flu outbreak: Xinhua

China has confirmed 77 human cases of H7N9 avian influenza since announcing two weeks ago that it had found the strain in people for the first time.
The new strain of the flu had been confined to the eastern city of Shanghai and nearby Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui until Saturday when the first case was reported in Beijing.
It has since spread west to the central province of Henan where two new cases were reported on Sunday.
China confirmed 14 new H7N9 cases between 6 pm on Monday and 8 pm Tuesday, Xinhua said, with two more deaths reported in Shanghai.
A total of 30 cases, including 11 ending in death, have now been reported in Shanghai, said Xinhua.
Eight of the people reported on Tuesday to have contracted H7N9 bird flu were said to be in critical condition.
Three of these were in Jiangsu, according to Xinhua, which cited the province's health department. They are a 21-year-old woman, and two men aged 56 and 72.
The other five were in Zhejiang, where three men and two women aged between 56 and 72 tested positive for the virus.
As of Tuesday, Zhejiang has confirmed 21 H7N9 cases, including two that have ended in death.
A seven-year-old girl in Beijing who tested positive for H7N9 in the capital's only reported case so far will be discharged from hospital on Wednesday, Xinhua said.
She has been treated for the past six days and is now testing negative for the virus.
A four-year-old boy who had tested positive was discharged from a Shanghai hospital last Wednesday, said Xinhua citing local health authorities.
He has been the only confirmed case to make a full recovery.
Health authorities in China say they do not know exactly how the virus is spreading, but it is believed to be crossing from birds to humans, prompting mass culls in several cities.
Experts fear the prospect of the virus mutating into a form easily transmissible between humans, which would have the potential to trigger a pandemic -- but the World Health Organization (WHO) has said there is no evidence yet of such a development.
International experts are preparing to head to China to probe the outbreak, the WHO said on Tuesday.
The mission, including four international flu specialists, is due to arrive in the coming days for a week-long investigation.
Taiwan announced on Tuesday that it is planning a permanent ban on the killing of live poultry in traditional markets amid concerns over the spread of the H7N9 avian flu virus in China.
Chinese state media on Monday urged people to keep eating chicken and help revive the poultry industry, which lost 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) in the week after the virus began infecting humans.

You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator for a few days, a white covering will form on the carrots. This is the chlorine which resurfaces. At what cost do we put our health at risk to have esthetically pleasing vegetables?

Chlorine is a very well-known carcinogen, which causes Cancer. I thought this was worth passing on. Pass it on to as many people as possible in hopes of informing them where these carrots come from and how they are processed.

I used to buy those baby carrots for vegetable dips. I know that I will never buy them again!!!!

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells will starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Birth Control Pills Recalled In Canada



Birth Control Pills Recalled In CanadaBirth control pills are being recalled in Canada over concerns that a batch contained two weeks of placebo sugar pills.
The pills were manufactured by Apotex for its Alysena-28 line. About 50,000 packages may have made it into the marketplace with the sugar pills instead of the birth control hormone.
A normal month’s supply of the medication contains one week of sugar pills and three weeks of birth control pills. The medicine is pink, while the placebo is white. London Drugs vice-president John Tse explained the recall by saying:
“I looked at it and said, ‘there could be unwanted pregnancies out there.’ We felt it was important to let the patient know so there can be a judgment call from the patient.”
Apotex, the largest generic drug manufacturer in Canada, initially listed the recall as voluntary. The company contacted wholesalers and retailers about the possible placebo batch, but has not directly contacted customers about the potentially faulty product.
Dennis Abud, who owns the Jean Coutu in Dieppe, explained that the problem packs should be easy to spot because of the pills’ colors. All of the pills Abud has in stock are okay, but he is still making a list of all the patients who received the prescription. He will then call them and make sure their lots are okay as well.
While Apotex did not issue a mandatory recall, Health Canada did so, calling the problem “urgent.” News of the birth control pill recall made several women nervous even if they were not potentially affected. The Canadian government elevated the recall case to a level 1 emergency because some women take the birth control pills for medical reasons.
The batch in question was distributed to almost every Canadian province between December 2012 and the first week of April 2013. The potentially altered packages have the code: LF01899A.
